Lecce/Puglia
Photo Gallery
Walking
down any street in Lecce, visitors discover they are
never far from a church. Many of Lecce’s Baroque
churches were constructed in the 16th century. During
that period, the Catholic Church embarked on a building
program in an effort to fortify the Salentine peninsula
against Turkish invasions that had exacted a high toll
on the people of the region.
